it's my birthday...

Instead of iPhone (which I don't need it), Mark offered me a trip to Seattle, Vancouver and Victoria. I accepted it with a big smile.

We started a trip by driving from Hood River, Oregon to Seattle. It took only two and a half hours. Mark's been here before, but I haven't. So he let me decide what we should do here. I told him I want to check out the best bakery in town, Pike Place Market and Space Needle.

Our trip in Seattle was just a day. We took Yindee to play at the dog park on Beacon Hill, then heading to Macrina Bakery for brunch. The owner of Macrina is a CCA's alumni. She has received several nominations for the "Outstanding Pastry Chef Award" from the James Beard Foundation. I ordered brioche chocolate as her breads are known for the best quality.

After finished our brunch, we walked to Pike Place Market. I was amazed by all the product they sell at the market, especially produce and seafood.

We went to the Space Needle in the afternoon. I wanted to see Mt. Rainier up there. Unfortunately, the sky wasn't clear enough. May be I can see it on the way back from Victoria. We're in Vancouver right now and will go to Victoria this evening. Hopefully, we'll get a good weather there.

I've heard good things about Macrina too, I just haven't bought the book :) (well, you know how it is...) I'm glad you're having such a great time! I'm glad you weren't rained out the whole way through!

Mark, it was sunny in Vancouver and Victoria today--lucky me. :)

Thank you, Helen.

I enjoyed Vancouver, Lucy. There were so many bakeries here that I really liked. I also enjoyed the food.

Happy Birthday ka P'Thip. I've just bought a copy of Macrina Bakery and CAfe cookbook. The book is very interesting ka. Your trip sounds great ka. I went to Seattle twice but didn't know about Macrina at that time :(

Hey Thip, Thanks for comment.
BTW, Happy Belated Birthday. What a great B-day gift. Lucky girl. Hope you have a blast traveling. I went to those places (a full month west coast trip 10 years ago). Best time of my life.

Hope you get to do wind surfing in Hood river and eat Voodoo donut in Portland...

Pook left :( It will be another 2 years to see her again.

Thip, you are a gifted photographer. The space needle pics are incredible. But I have a hard time figuring out a picture on top left. It looks cool and seems taken from airplane??

The top left are Experience Music Project and Science Fiction Museam buidling (EMP/SFM) at Space Needle. It opened in 2000, that's why you don't know about it when you were there 10 yrs ago. It's a cool building.

I've been in Hood River many time, but this time I feel more comfortable windsurfing in Columbia river with high wind (around 30 mph). I'll be here for a few days though, so I can use my smallest board that we just bought last week.

I didn't know that Pook is living in Thailand, I thought she lives in the U.S

I met her here 8 years ago by accident. We both dated somebody else. Then reunited again 5 years ago and grew to love each others. She had to go home 2 1/2 years ago. I started the blog because of her hoping that she will bake again. She used to bake a lot, attended baking classes while she was here. She is now overwhelmed with work in Bangkok. And dying to leave for culinary school once we get married. She was here to visit me (with her family) two months ago.

any names for the bakeries?
I should check it out next time i go back.

In Seattle, I only stopped by at Macrina.

In Vancouver, there were many local bakeries that I didn't pay attention about their name. But I do remember Ganache Patisserie in Yaletown and Death by Chocolate in Broadway.
