grilled shrimp satay...

with peanut sauce...

Most people know about chicken satay, but shrimp satay is definitely my favorite satay. It's lighter and tastier in my opinion.

for shrimp satay
- 1/2 lb shrimps, shelled and divined
- 1 tsp. curry powder
- 1 tsp. white pepper
- 1/8 tsp. turmeric powder
- 1/2 tbs. sugar
- 1/2 tbs. oyster sauce
- 1 tbs. soy sauce

for peanut sauce
- 1/2 cup coconut milk
- 1 tbs. masman Curry
- 2 garlic cloves
- 1 tbs. yellow onion, chopped
- 2 bird's eye chilies (optional)
- 1/4 cup roasted peanut
- 2 tsp. palm sugar
- 2 tsp. tamarind juice
- 1/2 tsp. fish sauce

for shrimp satay
1. Mix all ingredients together in a bowl.
2. Add shrimps, let marinate for an hour.
3. Grill the shrimps over medium heat until they turn pink.
for peanut sauce
1. Blend garlic, onion, chilies and peanuts together in a food processor.
2. Bring coconut milk to a boil, stir in masman curry.
3. Add the peanut mixture.
4. Add palm sugar, tamarind juice and fish sauce.
5. Cook for 5 minutes or until the sauce is thicken over medium heat.

Sounds wonderful I love shrimp satay, too! It has a fresher cleaner taste than chicken or beef satay (if fresh shrimp have been used to make it)

I'll have to try your recipe

Hah, I think it's because chicken is cheap and picks up the flavors really well. But of course shrimp is one of my favorite "meats" ever-- can't say no to that!

Is it Satay season? Must be. Yesterday it was the Indonesian Independence day and here in Holland where I live there is a huge Indonesian community (aka former dutch colony). You can imagine the Satays I ate - lunch and dinner yesterday and breakfast oday. Hence no time to blog about it... yet!

I love shrimp very much, doesn't matter how they are cooked. Just made some seafood curry using Thai red curry paste. Yummy!
